How does Bluesky handle checker work?

Bluesky handle checker uses the official Bluesky API to check if handles exist and are allowed. There are certain restrictions that words can be used in the handle. The checker works instantly, all you have to do is type and you can see if the handle is available or not.

How to Use Bluesky Media Downloader

The requirement for a Bluesky handle are:

- Handle must be 3 to 18 characters long.
- Only letters, numbers, and hyphens are allowed.
- Hyphens cannot be at the beginning or end.
- Inappropriate language is not allowed.
- Reserved words are not allowed.
- Reserved handles cannot be used.

Currently, the last point does not work due to BlueSky’s API. This means when someone has the domain example.bsky.social and changes it to a custom one like example.com. The original one gets reserved and cannot be used. However, there is no record of who owns the original so it is impossible for us to know. This issue is currently known to the developers and we will update the tool when it is fixed.
